The direct member may come up with any payment-related ideas, issues, and problems. A collective effort will be placed to design the solution using the UPI-Nepal. The primary objective of UPI-Nepal is to build an open payment system that is mobile-first, fast, and interoperable across different banks and payment service providers. UPI-Nepal puts the user’s experience and security at the center. The users will be able to opt for any payment service provider’s app, link it with their bank and start making payments to anyone across the country. This will ultimately eliminate the user’s dependency on any specific, poorly designed limited feature payment application. General and non-tech users will be able to use the single/multiple payments app based on their requirements with a more simple and more uniform experience. On the other hand, payment service providers will focus more on enabling services and the betterment of experience than on designing the payment and settlement framework.
Direct members will be able to onboard various sub-members such as Payment Service Providers, Merchants, Cooperatives, and MFIs. These members will be provided with the UPI-Nepal APIs to build innovative services around payment and transfers and offer services to their customers. For example, Cooperatives can offer mobile payment services to their customers using the APIs extended by Banks. The payment volume is limited using the Net Debit Cap (NDC) of their direct member bank. NDC is a limit that is created by UPI-Nepal for each direct member based on the volume of the transaction cycle. Direct members will offer the individual NDC to their sub-member based on their separate arrangements.
